On Tuesday (April 4), Pepsi debuted a tone deaf commercial featuring Kendall Jenner lucidly making light of civil rights protests and Black Lives Matter. “Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding. if only she'd given them a pepsi pic.twitter.com/rVM8jkJrG4

Would I not have been shot by police at StandingRock if I’d given them a Pepsi? The cop smiles and all is good in the world. Except that’s not the reality to the lot of brave activists   who actually have participated in these protests. It took only a day for the soft drink giant to pull the ad following a well deserved dragging on Twitter. Past and current activists were typically subjected to being attacked by law enforcement dogs, gassed, pepper sprayed and hosed down with water canons while fighting for equality. pic.twitter.com/FA6JPrY72V
— Be A King (@BerniceKing) April 5, 2017

While the ad itself wasn’t a good idea, it did unite people in recognizing that using the plight, hurt and pain of people combatting everyday issues shouldn’t be used to sell   sugary soda. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s daughter Bernice King echoed these sentiments in a Tweet. If only we knew the power of @Pepsi… https://t.co/1z7b2iMx2h pic.twitter.com/ZtES0UEX2t

"Hold Up! We are pulling the content and halting any further rollout.” They also issued an apology to KJ   for putting her in a   position to be scrutinized. The ad sparked a Twitter storm of folks sarcastically tweeting that if only those protesters, including   Ieshia Evans   — a black woman who stood her ground   while being charged by riot police during a Black Lives Matter protest in Baton Rouge last summer — had a Pepsi they would have been spared from police brutality. “If only Daddy would have known about the power of #Pepsi,” she tweeted along with a black and white photo of her father being pushed back by police officers. The advertisement included peculiar commodities such as Kendall ripping off a blonde wig and handing it over to the nearest black woman, radiant   young protesters smiling while holding up vague signs such as “Join the conversation,” Jenner dapping up the nearest black guy with a can of Pepsi and the most disparaging moment, her handing the ubiquitous blue can to a rather attractive cop. Clearly, we missed the mark and apologize,” the company said in a statement on Wednesday (April 5). If only Daddy would have known about the power of #Pepsi. Many decried the commercial for being insensitive. “We did not intend to make light of any serious issue. Is that Kendall Jenner holding a pepsi?" pic.twitter.com/9U1q5gQ901

Knight Jr. MY FATHER NEEDS HIS FAMILY AND HIS CIVIL RIGHTS BACK BEFORE WE TALK ABOUT A DOCUMENTARY. When you look who is trying to profit off of causing chaos in my family its somebody who doesnt know nor care about my family. If he knew anybody was after him he wouldnt have pac with him in the first place. has something to say. made a post on Instagram with a picture of his father and Tupac and explained that the former Death Row Records leader would never put ‘Pac in harm’s way and described him as a big brother to the icon. My father was the Big protective brother of Pac. In a statement to HipHopDX, Culpepper said   he has “never made any statements regarding Tupac Shakur, nor have I made any statements on my client’s behalf regarding Mr. about his father’s case below. In light of reports that   Suge Knight revealed Tupac’s killers   years after the West Coast legend’s murder and that it was actually him who was the intended target of the fatal drive-by, his son Suge Knight Jr. Shakur, written or otherwise.”
Knight is currently in jail awaiting trial for murder charges stemming from a hit-and-run at a Compton burger stop in 2015. Only negative black stories get broadcasted I see, smh.

Bent has already released several gems, including “Rotten Apple Seeds” and the   Complex Simplicity   LP, both of which clearly set him apart from his peers. Kweli just wrapped up his The 7 Tour with Styles P. WANT MORE? malik ninety five   – “need to know”

As New Orleans artist Malik Ninety Five   prepares to drop his new album, The Paradise Project, he’s back with another single titled “Need to Know.” It’s a slow, laid-back track touching on why he prefers to do things solo, although the track is co-produced by fellow Big Easy artists   CLBTS and Westline. The DX Digest for Wednesday (April 5) finds a surprise return from Evidence and producer Alchemist with a beautifully shot visual for “Throw It All Away” sitting in the top slot while Kevin Gates channels ’90s singer Joan Osborne to ask “What if God is one of us?” We also feature   D.R.A.M.’s episode of Noisey’s The People Vs.,   Talib Kweli’s 64 Bars freestyle at Red Bull Studios, and a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Danny Brown’s demented “Ain’t It Funny” video. Lil Niqo is back with a video for “The City” that features   the blossoming rapper exuding nothing but energy as he spits from the roof of a building. Fresh music from Malik Ninety Five, Kodak Black, Kyle Bent, and Suni MF Solomon, as well as an incredible Zodiac Tracks mix from DJ Nu-Mark complete the list. His latest offering comes in the form of “Why They Call You Kodak,” which hails from the Florida native’s debut album, Painting Pictures   and is produced by Ben Billions. kodak black   – “Why they call you kodak”

We are honored to be hosting the Powamekka Cafe pop-up at Sweet Chick, and help bring his vision to life with the dishes that he loved.”

Tupac's vision for his restaurant, Powamekka Café, was conceived on three handwritten pages in his notebook more than 21 years ago. For one day, the eatery featured a menu of ‘Pac-inspired bites, including the California Love Chicken Sandwich and Thug Passion cake pops. The announcement of the Powamekka Cafe location at Sweet Chick comes months after another restaurant created its own version of ‘Pac’s vision. This Friday his vision comes to life for 3 days only in NYC. “As a restaurant, we embody everything he represents — music, style, food, and neighborhood. “Sweet Chick is about community and culture at its core, and so was Tupac,” Seymour said in a statement. New York, NY – A vision backed merely by three handwritten pages in one of Tupac’s notebooks will soon become reality. Last September, Take 3 Burger in Fresno, California, held a one-day Powamekka Cafe pop-up. Powamekka Cafe is currently accepting reservations for its three-day run. Sonos has developed three different Spirit Houses, which allow fans to enter the virtual world that the Gorillaz animated characters 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel exist in. “The launch of their first album in seven years is such a big moment for Gorillaz fans and we’re excited to invite people all over the world experience it using Sonos.”
Admission is free, but those lucky enough to be in the city where the Spirit Houses are popping up must RSVP here. Watch the trailer above. “Gorillaz have always been inspiring artists who ignore the limitations of any medium or format,” Sonos VP of Global Brand Dmitri Siegel   said in press release. After revealing the title and tracklist for their forthcoming album, Humanz, last month, the Gorillaz team has conjured up a brilliant marketing plan with Sonos, which sees the Spirit House depicted in the new “Saturnz Barz” video come to life. Expected to arrive April 28,   Humanz boasts contributions from artists such as Danny Brown, Vince Staples, De La Soul,   D.R.A.M., Carly Simon, Grace Jones, and Mavis Staples. Beginning April 21 and culminating May 6, Sonos and Gorillaz plan to transform three raw spaces in Berlin, Germany; Brooklyn, New York and Amsterdam, Netherlands into   Gorillaz Spirit Houses. Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn — the musical geniuses behind the Gorillaz — could never simply drop an album without making a grandiose   event out of the impending occasion. Each space includes a real-life manifestation of Murdoc, 2D, Russel and Noodle’s lounge in Gorillaz’s own home, using physical installations and projection mapping technology.

But the greatest reason the tracklist could be fake is because “Humble.” isn’t listed on it. Dot brewing for a while   now, even if they sounded oh-so-harmonious on the   good kid m.A.A.d. Granted, he said he only listened to some of the beats King Kendrick was considering for the album, but still. Annotators on Genius have begun speculation that both “The Heart Part 4” and “Humble.” take shots at Big Sean and Drake. Moving right along, what will Kendrick’s new album say? Let’s break down what else we know about the project so far. In an interview with the New York Times, Compton’s good kid shared that his new album is “very urgent” before explaining how he’s moving forward from the message of the project, which received a perfect 5.0   from HipHopDX. Perhaps a guest appearance from D’Angelo is a bit of a stretch, but if anybody can get the legendary singer on a track right now it would be Kendrick, right? Producer Syk   Sense spoke with internet sensation   EricTheYoungGawd about what he’d heard from the project and said it’s “some of the hardest shit”   he’s heard   and that it was like Memphis in Los Angeles. We know he’s all about the homies and putting on for his city. Production will most likely come from some of those frequent collaborators. Starting with the basics, the presumed release date is April 7, which comes from Kendrick himself on “The Heart Part 4,” where he warns the rest of the rap game “Y’all got ’til April the 7th to get y’all shit together.”
Other than that, there is no known title, cover art, or confirmed tracklist for the follow-up to the Grammy-winning   To Pimp a Butterfly. Most of the speculation says that it is, in fact, a new album — even if K. Fellow TDE-er ScHoolboy Q posted on Snapchat about his labelmate’s “Humble.,”   confirming that   the single is part of a full LP. 4/7
A post shared by Dacoury Natche (@djdahi) on Mar 26, 2017 at 6:31am PDT

Mike WiLL Made-It produced   “Humble.” after featuring Kendrick on his   Ransom 2 album alongside Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane. city collab “Poetic Justice.”
But the LP will probably be much denser than a bunch of subliminals aimed at those few who dare to consider themselves Kendrick’s competition. Something from Kendrick Lamar is coming April 7. There has been a sort of cold war between Drizzy and K. Dot or TDE hasn’t confirmed it. “My focus is ultimately going back to my community and the other communities around the world where they’re doing the groundwork,” he said. We’re in a time where we exclude one major component out of this whole thing called life: God. Nobody speaks on it because it’s almost in conflict with what’s going on in the world when you talk about politics and government and the system.”
Lamar’s music has always explored spiritual themes, from “Faith” off his 2009 self-titled EP to President Barack Obama’s favorite song of 2015, “How Much a Dollar Costs.”   The world is on high alert to hear how Kendrick moves the narrative forward from here. I’m in a space now where I’m not addressing the problem anymore. DJ Dahi recently shared a pic from the studio with Kendrick. After the politically charged   To Pimp a Butterfly, which was literally used as a rally cry for the Black Lives Matter movement, where does Cornrow Kenny go from here? “To Pimp a Butterfly was addressing the problem. Production is listed from Sounwave   and Terrace Martin (usual suspects) as well as DJ Dahi, Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Cardo, Alchemist and Swizz Beatz (whose young son produced a song on   untitled unmastered.). The YouTube video was taken down — at Syk’s request, according to XXL   —   soon after reports started circulating about the interview. The Eardrummers leader told The Breakfast Club   that he has even more tracks with the West Coast MC on the   new album. A rumored tracklist surfaced shortly after the release of “The Heart Part 4,” and it’s fairly convincing with features from Kanye West, Q-Tip, André 3000, Anderson .Paak, Anna Wise and Bilal.

The last time anyone heard a single from him was last year’s lyrical sledgehammer “Campaign Speech,” which Slim Shady did say was the precursor to an album. Does that really say "April 9" or are we looking way too far in this picture? “So we gon’ work that out. Stans!? Though Eminem caught much attention following his guest verse on Big Sean’s   I Decided. Fans have noticed some illegible writing on Slim Shady’s palm with many believing it reads April 9th. Obviously, many speculate that’s a project release date. “Denaun called me yesterday [when] him and Em were working on the album and he was telling me, and I haven’t really been in the room with [Eminem, since leaving Shady Records], that shit that happens is still what they say when they mention me,” exclaimed Stat. guess who's back, back again, shady's back #7elevenseries pic.twitter.com/OqU0AF1RZc

An open letter on the website applauds Chance for his recent acts of service in his hometown   and expressed confidence in his ability to win the election. Chano4Mayor.com, a fan-created website, serves as the latest move to push Chance towards running for political office. The website is littered with politically and socially-charged lyrics from Chance, including this one from 2013’s “Acid Rain”: “Funerals for little girls is that appealing to you? “His wife called me at 8 p.m., crying, just two hours later like, ‘He just died’ and I was like, ‘What are you talking about? According to Short, before Dre left California he worked on Michel’le’s album, specifically the 1989 track “Something In My Heart.”

“I don’t know the whole story, but I know he worked on that song,” he says. “I’m shocked,” Too Short tells HipHopDX. He was the sound guy on that tour and I was the guy that went on before N.W.A. “He called some friends and then called us at the studio. “He spent some time with his wife and right before he passed, she said that he told her to lean over and he was rubbing on her face. “She said that he got off the phone, and that he was in a really, really, really good mood,” he continues. Damn, Just Heard That Andre "L.A. It was a real big deal. It kind of hit me hard because he’s the one guy who has a lot of knowledge about everything in the building, and he had a hand in hooking everything up. We all met on that tour. He couldn’t really talk, but he was waving and throwing up the peace sign, smiling and laughing a little bit. “Me and Dre didn’t do a lot of music together. on Monday (April 3), Short received a FaceTime call from Dre, who had been in the hospital since his stroke, although   he had no idea it would be the last time he talked to him. “He did other stuff with Dr. I never heard of anyone dying like that and I think it was just the greatest thing.”
Short suspects Dre had a feeling his time was up and those phone calls served as his final goodbyes. “It caught all of us off guard. We worked a lot together, but he was the sound guy for N.W.A on the Straight Outta Compton Tour, the one they depict in the movie. I picked up and he was on FaceTime, sitting up in the bed. He kept saying, ‘I love you, I love you, I love you,’ then he told her to kiss him and as soon as she kissed him, he grabbed his chest and took his last breath. He knew how to wire the studio.”

Later, after he moved to Atlanta, he wasn’t a sound guy on tour with N.W.A anymore, so I started taking him on the road with me and did my tour for about 10 years.”
While Short and Dre stayed in touch over the years, most recently they teamed up to open a Los Angeles-based studio and were just nearing its completion when Dre suffered the stroke. His wife had been the only one there when he passed and I guess when the family came to the hospital, they were looking at the body and were like, ‘Why is he smiling?’   He died with a smile on his face.”
Dre played a significant   role in Warren G’s recent documentary, G-Funk,   and will undoubtedly be remembered by the countless artists he worked with, including members of J.J. Check out some of those reactions below   and find the documentary here. Dre" Bolton Passed Away… #RestInPowerLegend

@WESTCOASTDOC Sorry to hear.

The terms of Ross’ probation do not include any restrictions on his travel — which will really free him up to shoot that movie with Gucci Mane. The sentence also stipulates that Ross can’t use drugs or alcohol, must undergo anger management, can’t possess firearms, and must have no contact with the victims. More of what he had to say at 11. Atlanta, GA – Rick Ross, real name William Leonard Roberts III, will not face any jail time after pleading no contest to several charges   stemming from an incident in 2015. The incident came after the two service workers threw a party at Ross’ estate without permission, and when   Ross found out, he allegedly pointed a gun at his groundskeeper and forced him into a guesthouse, where he beat him with the weapon. @wsbtv

This is the statement the Fayette County DA put out regarding his decision to reduce felony charges to misdemeanors for rapper Rick Ross. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,   Rozay pleaded no contest to all of the charges. Ross’ no contest plea evaded the need for a full trial, something judges often take into account when rendering a sentence. The two claimants in the case had argued that both Ross and his bodyguard had pistol-whipped them at Ross’ Fayetteville home, leading to charges of aggravated assault, battery and pointing a pistol at someone. @wsbtv

Ross   has been on Twitter since the court’s decision, praising God before getting back to business. A search clause is also included in the probation. Ross spoke briefly to a reporter about his decision to plead no contest:

knows his manager, so we’ve connected already. Tech N9ne, Eminem, Elton John and Billy Joel together on one record would be a thing to behold, but if Thundercat can recruit Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins, then anything is possible. As he told HipHopDX last month “My lawyer out there in L.A. While it’s all up in the air, Tech says a collaboration with Sir Elton John might be a possibility. It was when discussing the structure of Kendrick Lamar‘s monster new single “Humble” that Tech began to explain the primary catalyst for his upcoming album — Billy Joel’s “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant.” His grand vision of Planet is a seamless listen — not unlike Billy’s timeless classic — that never stops, but instead changes. Later in the interview he described how the situation with Sir Elton John presented an opportunity to bring his plans to fruition. Minnesota, MN – Indie rap legend   Tech N9ne and his longtime collaborator Krizz Kaliko recently stopped by Minnesota’s Go 95.3 and not only shared the story of working with Eminem on “Speedom” for his critically acclaimed fifth studio album Special Effects, but also provided   some insight into the unlikely inspiration for his upcoming album,   Planet. We just haven’t gotten on the phone yet. “It will take you on a ride, where you never have to fast forward,” he explained. I thought, maybe Elton John can hook me up with Billy Joel!”
Tech also revealed he had big plans for a potential feature. “When Elton John said my name while looking for a record of mine in Vancouver, I thought about how him and Billy Joel toured together a lot. “I really need to talk to him [Billy Joel] because I have a big plan for me and Eminem on this record,” said Tech before quickly clarifying that he hadn’t actually told anyone about it yet. I can’t wait.”

DMX had taken to Twitter to post the request, and judging by the level of backlash he received, you might think he had asked somebody to give him their pet dog to throw off a building. Please don't put your career on life support

Taking all this into account, it seems pretty plausible that DMX was, in fact, using his own huge Twitter following to help find “trap” beats for his friend, who only has about 1,000 Twitter followers. (@HOA_Bossman) April 3, 2017
